Meet Ellen Burnes.

Ellen Burnes is a Doctor of Natural Resource Economics, and is currently a Finance Professor at Colorado State University where she mentors students becoming the next generation of business owners, policy makers, and community leaders as they navigate the complex economies of the 21st Century.

For the last 25 years she has worked in public and private consulting and policymaking in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East. Whether it’s leading the economic analysis of over $6B in Federal Infrastructure, water resource management for the largest off-stream reservoir in America, public transit technology acquisition for Australia, or running a Blacksmith’s Shop as a Park Ranger, her broad experience is unmatched by any other Senate candidate.

As a lifelong athlete and fitness enthusiast, Ellen also takes every opportunity to spend time in Colorado’s Great outdoors running marathons, mountain biking, or just walking her dogs.

Colorado’s future depends on leaders who have ambitions which don’t involve climbing ladders and dispensing red tape. Leaders with track records filled with real-world victories, and the composure to stand tall in the face of adversity. With the discipline she gained from a childhood in rural America, and a deep-rooted curiosity for the natural world, Ellen Burnes has dedicated her life to taking on “impossible” challenges in Finance, Agriculture, and Natural Resource Management.

Navigating a Changing
America

The accomplishments of Dr. Ellen Burnes were proudly Made in America. Ellen is the product of a 20th Century America which supported a strong public education system, visionary legislation like Title IX, youth organizations such as 4-H and FFA, and affordable low-interest student loans. As a community leader, Ellen sees first-hand that the drastic erosion of safety nets which gave her opportunities are leaving young Americans barely hanging by a thread.

In the coming century, America has to navigate some big changes with big price tags, that we won’t be able to just spend our way out of. Trillions of dollars in student debt, billions in extreme weather damage, billions in infrastructure updates, all while providing jobs, food, and housing to hundreds of millions of Americans.

As a natural resources economist, Ellen works with people from all 64 counties to bolster Colorado’s long-term economic success through manufacturing, public transit, water management, renewable energy, farm-to-table supply chains, and good old fashioned tourism. Building a Smarter Future for Colorado means ensuring that families who are dependent on Colorado’s natural resources will always have a seat at the table.

Colorado has always been a place of true grit and determination, with big skies and even bigger opportunities. Ellen Burnes isn’t running just for the honor of being the first Coloradan to be addressed as Madam Senator, she’s here to roll up her sleeves and take a hands-on approach to public policy which celebrates and protects our Colorado way of life.
